In Hwa Chong, we have a rich culture where students undertake projects that serve the community, be it at the school level, or working with welfare volunteer organizations (VWOs) to reach out to different service beneficiaries, at the grassroots level partnering with community centres, at the national level or even internationally.
These projects are student-initiated and student-led, sustainable, and service-oriented, meaning that the needs of the service beneficiaries are of paramount importance. We utitlise service-learning as a tool to facilitate the development and growth of our students. We believe that the service goals and the learning goals are equally important. In this way, our students reap tremendous benefits as they use reflections to constantly learn and improve, in their character, teamwork, organizational skills and also in their service to the beneficiaries.
Our community projects are transformational. Not only are the lives of our students transformed, but the communities are transformed.
Through the community projects, our students will be able to be prepared for their transition into adulthood, ready to be servant leaders, becoming active citizens, passionate for their causes, and compassionate towards the needs of the community.
Our community projects run the gamut from helping the elderly, to orphans, the disabled, the poor, the deaf, the autistic and even the environment as well.
