Wildlife Buddies Programme
  • Wildlife Buddies Programme @ Singapore Zoo

  • In collaboration with the Singapore Zoo
  • Bring residents from Volunteer Welfare Organisations on visits to the zoo
  • Wildlife Buddies Sabbaticals [how to be guides at the Singapore Zoo]

Targeted at primary and secondary students, the programme aims to prepare them to be zoo guides for their younger peers or less fortunate members of society.

The wild life buddies program equips the students with an opportunity to carry out meaningful interaction activities with their VWO. This program, which is a collaboration with the Singapore Zoo and the Singapore Press Holdings, not only allows the young men to hone their presentation skills as guides to the visitors, it also enables them to interact with their VWO residents through a less conventional outdoor activity.

During the two half-days of the course conducted by the Singapore Zoo's Education Department, the students will learn about the animals and all things conservation in a fun and experiential way.

These students, armed with their new-found knowledge, can collaborate with welfare organizations to organize a visit to the zoo for the less fortunate members of society and share conservation messages with them, too!

  • HCI's Wildlife Buddies

In 2008, the first cohort of HCI pupils was trained as Wildlife Buddies. They learned about wildlife conservation and the projects that zoos around the world work on together. One example is the movement to save animals whose natural habitats have been destroyed by climate change.

After their training, these Wildlife Buddies, together with their classmates, brought some residents of Bukit Batok Home to the Zoo for an enjoyable and memorable outing.
