HCI IP & Holistic Development Models

Programmes
Ortus Consortium provides a wide range of programmes and activities over and above school-run ones. The programmes and activities offered are based on the HCI IP and Holistic Development Model. This serve to give Ortusians more opportunities to hone existing skills and knowledge, as well as explore and experience new ones, in order to mould the holistically-developed Ortusian.
Our programmes and activities include:
Student Exchanges
Ortus has a wide network of partner schools. The following are schools with on-going exchange programme with HCI:
*Brisbane, Australia – Citipointe Christian College
*Kyoto, Japan – Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School
*Kerala, India – Rajagiri Public School
*Nanchang, China – 南昌铁路一中
*Xi’an, China – 西安交大附中
*Muar, Malaysia – Chung Hwa High School
*Local – Chestnut Drive Secondary School
Leadership Development
Our student leaders in the Class Management Committee (CMC) and Ortus Council are given opportunities to be trained in the following areas:
*Personal Effectiveness
*Events Organisation
*Conflict Management
*Effective Leadership
Peer Mentoring and Guidance
The Ortus Peer Support Leaders (OPSL) include Sec 2 to 4 students who are roped in to guide and mentor their juniors on both a formal and informal basis.
*Formal – Scheduled in-class sharing and guidance sessions by peer mentors. Senior students share their personal experiences with juniors on topics such as time management, coping with the transition from primary school to HCI, etc.
*Informal – Peer mentors each play buddy to a few Sec 1 juniors. The juniors are encouraged to seek out their senior buddies for casual chit-chat, or help and advice when needed.
Academic Support
Academically weaker students are identified at the end of each term to be included in the Ortus Self-Study Sessions held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. These sessions are helmed by the Peer Support Leaders, Teaching Assistant, and/or teachers to help students work on their weaker subjects. With closer attention and guidance, we hope to help these students cope and to improve in their studies.
Community Involvement Programme
The Service Learning Club within Ortus Consortium consists of student leaders who guide the other Ortusians to plan and execute service learning projects and CIP activities to serve the school and the community at large. The whole process of planning to execution gives Ortusians more ownership and pride in serving, as well as more joy and satisfaction upon completion of the community service.
Bonding, Recreation and Welfare
The Ortus Council, under the stewardship of the Council Mentors, organize a range of recreational activities carried out throughout the academic year to give Ortusians a chance to let their hair down and unwind, and perhaps at the same time, learn a new skill. These activities include Ortulympics, movie screening and the End-of-Year Activities (EOYA) which encompass a range of activities.
