Overview of our programme
Hwa Chong
Institution (High School Section) offers a seamless, 4-year
Integrated Mathematics programme for our students on the Integrated
Programme (IP). In the process, the department merges the current
GCE 'O' Level Mathematics (4016) and GCE 'O' Level Additional
Mathematics (4038) syllabuses, in tandem with the school¡¯s
overarching philosophy of allowing students to explore their
interest during the first two years, moving on to develop passion in
the next two years and finally consolidating their knowledge and
skills in the last two years. In addition, emphasis will also be
placed on the thinking framework ¨C critical thinking, creative and
caring thinking ¨C that cuts across all curricula.
The IP Mathematics programme aims to equip students with
necessary mathematics knowledge and skills using a variety of
pedagogical approaches, infused with critical, creative and caring
thinking skills. The programme is designed in order to provide
opportunities for applications and transfer of knowledge and skills
learnt through active students¡¯ involvement and a balanced
implementation of various modes of assessment.
Differentiation for the gifted and
talented To cater to the gifted and mathematically
talented students, the mathematics curriculum will be differentiated
for these students through content (both in terms of breadth and
depth through individualisation, interdisciplinary studies and
infusion of affective education), process (a more rigorous
student-centred approach will be adopted), product (teachers provide
real context and students to create outcomes) and environment
(authentic learning environment and student-centeredness).
The roadmap of the integrated mathematics curriculum is shown as
