Schools will be informed of the Group Numbers of all eligible participants one week prior to the competition.
Registered participants who
have not settled their payments by 19 March 2010 will not be allowed to participate, they will not be given index number.
Workshop for accompanying teachers |

4. Eligibility
All participants must be born between 2 Jan 1998 and 1 Jan
1999, both dates inclusive, or Primary 6 students born after 1 Jan 1999.
5. Scoring
of Competition Papers
The total
mark for the competition paper will be 150 marks, which are allotted as follows:
Questions 1 to 10: 4 marks each
Questions 11
to 20: 5 marks each
Questions 21
to 30: 6 marks each
There will be no deduction of marks for error or omissions. Marks will be awarded for correct answers only.
6. Instructions
for Participants
a) All participants must report for the competition in full school uniform.
b) All participants must bring along their student identification cards, bus concession cards or passports for identification purposes.
c) All participants must bring their own stationery.
d) The use of calculators, mathematical sets or mathematical tables is not allowed during the competition.
7. Prizes
Individual Prizes
a) Individuals winners will qualify for the following awards:
i) Platinum Award Certificates and plaques will be awarded to the top 2% candidates with exceptionally outstanding performance that meets the minimum requirements set by the judges.
ii) Gold Award Certificates will be awarded to candidates whose results are the top 5% of the field.
iii) Silver Award Certificates will be awarded to candidates whose results are the next 5% of the field, and
iv) Bronze Award Certificates will be awarded to the subsequent 10% of the field.
v) Others will receive a certificate of participation.
b) 20
Individual Prizes will be awarded to the top 20 participants:
The details of the prizes are as follows:
- 1st Prize: $500 and 1 plaque
- 2nd Prize: $400 and 1 plaque
- 3rd Prize: $300 and 1 plaque
- 4th-10th Prize: $200 and 1 plaque

11th-20th Prize: $100 and 1 plaque
Five Honourable Mention Awards, the prize of which will be a
plaque each, will also be awarded to five outstanding participants.
Team Prizes
Three Team Prizes will be awarded to the top three schools that are ranked according to the total score of their top three pupils in the SMOPS.
First Prize: |

$1000 in cash, 1 plaque per winner, 1 trophy and the Kong Chian Challenge Trophy for the school |
Second Prize: |
$500 in cash, 1 plaque per winner and 1 trophy for the school |
Third Prize: |
$300 in cash, 1 plaque per winner and 1 trophy for the school |
Three
Honourable Mention Team Awards, the prizes of which are a plaque for each top
three scorers, will also be awarded to three
outstanding schools.
The Champion
School shall keep the Kong Chian Challenge Trophy and shall return it to Hwa
Chong Institution for the next competition. The Challenge Trophy shall be kept
permanently by the school, which emerges champion in three consecutive
Olympiads.
8.
Announcement of Winners
a) Results of the SMOPS 2010 will be posted on the website by 11 May 2010.
b) The top 10% participants, or the top 200 participants, whichever is lower, will be invited to compete in the Invitation Round on 29 May 2010.
9.
Registration
a) A
$30/- registration fee per student [inclusive of GST] will be charged and registration opens until 12 March 2010. Registration will not be accepted after 12 March 2010.
b)
Registration is to be carried out online using the password provided. All the names of the participants must be filled in the online form and a registration number will be issued for each participant after the online form is submitted. Registration will close when the registration number hits 3000 or at the 0000hr on 13 March 2010, whichever is earlier.
c)
Registrations will be taken as confirmed only upon receipt of payment.
1. Schools opting to make payment through IFAAS are to provide the date for IFFAS transaction. Index Number for participation will only be issued to participants whose payment by IFAAS or cheque had been cleared.
2. Schools opting to make payment by cheque are to issue only ONE cheque (per school) for the total fee for all participants, made payable to Hwa Chong Institution. Please indicate the name of the school, number of participants and 'SMOPS 2010' at the back of the cheque.
d) All
payment by cheque or IFAAS Forms is to be sent to:

10. Closing Date
All registrations and
payment must reach Hwa Chong Institution by 12 March 2010 (Friday).
After 12 March 2010, online registration will be closed.

APMOPS 2010 Invitation Round

3. Eligibility
The top 10% of the participants or the top 200 participants, whichever is lower, in Round 1 of the local competition (SMOPS) will be invited for the Invitation Round.
Up to top 10 participants from each overseas centre will also be invited for the Invitation Round.
*All
participants must be primary school students and they must be born between 2 Jan
1998 and 1 Jan 1999, both dates inclusive, or Primary 6 students born after 1 Jan 1999.
For overseas centres with the school year commencing in June/July: Participants must be primary school students born between 1 July 1997 and 30 June 1998, both dates inclusive, or Primary 6 students born after 30 June 1998.
4. Fees
There
will be no fees incurred.
5. Scoring of
Competition Papers
[a] The
total marks will be 60.
[b] There
will be 6 problem sums. All working must be clearly shown.
[c] Omission
of working will result in loss of marks.
6. Instructions
for Participants
[a] All participants must report for the competition in full school uniform. Those not wearing school uniform will not be allowed to take part.
[b] All local participants must bring along their Student Identification Cards, or Bus concession cards. The identity of all overseas participants will be verified using their passports.
[c] All participants must bring their own stationery.
[d] The use of calculators, mathematical sets or mathematical tables is not allowed during the competition.
7.
Prizes
A total
of 40 Individual Prizes will be awarded to the top 40 participants in the
Invitation Round (APMOPS). The details of the prizes are as follows:
