The degree is a coursework and dissertation degree delivered totally on site at Hwa Chong Institution by Graduate School of Education staff. It is a 48 point degree structured as follows:
The units are:
EDUC5620 - The Dissertation - The Dissertation is designed to stress project work, especially in relation to topics of practical and professional significance to schools in Singapore. In addition to this, all courses are assessed by project and assignment work, not by examination. This gives further opportunity for participants to develop their research skills, and to work on topics and projects of professional relevance. The teaching methods used in all courses encourage interaction and discussion, in the belief that learning at post graduate level is best when based on extensive student-teacher and student-student interaction. In addition, the curriculum and readings for all units in this course put students in touch with latest international theory, thinking and trends, in order to broaden and internationalise students' understandings. Participants are encouraged to apply these understandings to contemporary education issues in Singapore, and to use a research-oriented approach in pursuing their interests. The first cohort of participants began the programme in March 2001 and completed in March 2003. The fourteenth cohort started in March 2016. From 2017 onwards the MEd programme will be offered in collaboration with the Academy of Principals, Singapore (APS) |
