  Teaching Areas Pedagogy; qualitative research methods; professional development and teacher education; semiotics and social discourses; literacy and numeracy.  
       
  Research Areas Language and learning in school mathematics; professional development in literacy and numeracy; masculinity in schools; semiotics and mathematics education.  
       
  Post-Graduate Supervision Has extensive supervision experience at PhD, EdD, Masters and Honours levels.  
       
  Professional Development Commissioned for more than a dozen projects, including: Literacy Practices for Secondary Schools and Professional Development in Numeracy for Secondary School Teachers of Years 6 to 10 (both DEETYA funded, for the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia); Literacy and Numeracy for Rural Students (for the National Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia); and A Professional Development Package in Academic Numeracy (funded by UWA Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Education and Law).  
       
  Publications Publications in international refereed journals including: Australian Journal of Education; Linguistics & Education; Literacy and Numeracy Studies; Mathematics Education Research Journal; and Teaching in Higher Education. Co-author of Literacy and Learning in Mathematics (with J. Bickmore-Brand, WA: EDWA, 1996) and Pedagogical Relationships between Adult Literacy and Numeracy (with A. Lee & P. Roe, Sydney: UTS, 1996). Author of numerous refereed book chapters, book reviews in international journals, articles in professional and non-refereed journals, monographs and commissioned reports for government and private sector organisations.
